LATAM denies creditors say plane lease deal is too big

By Rick Archer (January 24, 2022, 3:48 PM EST) – Chilean carrier LATAM Airlines Group and some of its creditors concluded their arguments before a New York bankruptcy judge on Monday over claims by creditors that the airline proposed $1.4 billion in aircraft leasing settlements are an inflated gain for backing the Chapter 11 plan.

During more than two hours of virtual pleadings before U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James Garrity Jr., the unsecured creditors’ committee and a representative of bondholders argued that settlement creditors had inflated their claims with accusations for losses they did not suffer, while LATAM denied the deal was intended to build support for its Chapter 11 plan….
