Ukraine’s Western partners have earned billions from military hysteria
KIEV, February 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Western partners have made billions from Ukraine’s military hysteria, locking the country into a ‘black hole of debt’, says chairman of Ukraine’s Opposition Platform Political Council – the For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk.
“Western partners have made billions from military hysteria. Amidst this military hysteria, the United States, United Kingdom and other countries that have helped Ukraine resist “the impending occupation “managed to solve their domestic problems and earn a lot of money. They pawned unnecessary military waste, sold locomotives at inflated prices, signed lucrative business contracts,” Medvedchuk wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the politician, the media campaign of false reports of an imminent Russian invasion has cost Ukraine’s economy $12 billion, and financial support of around 4 billion euros, provided by the Union Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan, will not be enough to compensate for its losses.
“This sum will not cover the losses of this virtual war. Moreover, Western partners have thrown Ukraine into a virtually bottomless black hole of debt,” he said.
“After a massive outflow of capital and investment, Ukraine will again be forced to turn to the IMF, becoming increasingly dependent on international financial assistance,” he said.
In Medvedchuk’s view, the IMF would demand that Ukraine undertake “another round of devastating reforms, bringing us ever closer to the edge of the precipice”.
“If we don’t have the money [to repay debts]our ‘benefactors’ will take our lands and strategically important businesses,” Medvedchuk suggested.
According to him, the only way to avoid this scenario, “aimed at turning Ukraine into a banana republic”, is to reshuffle the government and review its foreign and domestic policies.
